Wayne), regarding the elimination from the appropriation bill of^^yision for a children's hospital in .Mishawaka, is enjoying a heyday in Washington. Money changed hands in Michigan, and accusations of it was made by Senator Phelps in Indianapolis,—but this story has majorly to do wi£h what is going on at the national capitol. Sounds fantastic, but there's an undercover drive under way, well heeled with heavy money, to slip a destructive amendment into the United States constitution before the voters wake up to what's going on. Objective of the drive is the adoption of what's been well called ton Page Five) ways said it was, Ralph F. ("F" as in "Flatulence") Gates and his 1945 assembly, instead of reversing the order, have worse than emphasized it not only into a one-p^rty, but a fac-. tion of a party stupidity. Governor Gates* through his assembly, has relegated to himself powers of which Paul McNiitt never dared to dream. All these years the G. O. P. has apparently been studying how they could maikea bad matter worse, and came to the present conclusion. They tried . it, first in 1943, but with a Democratic governor (Henry F.
