This collection preserves the stories of the people of South Bend and St. Joseph County in their own words.
One group of oral histories were recorded for the Indiana University South Bend Civil Rights Heritage Center at the IU South Bend Archives. The legacies of those who fought to promote equality, civil rights, and social justice in our community are too important to lose. The Civil Rights Heritage Center preserves and shares Michiana's civil rights history, as well as the history of the African American, LGBTQ, and Latinx experiences here.
"South Bend Stories" were produced at the Salvation Army Kroc Center recording studio in 2015 as a joint project of WVPE and SB150. They were recorded as a celebration of the 150th anniversary of the city of South Bend.
