Michiana Memory

Welcome to Michiana Memory, SJCPL's Local & Family History Department digital collections. The purpose of these collections is to provide online access to the community's shared history and culture. These books, pamphlets, pictures, and documents tell the story of the Michiana area, including St. Joseph County, Indiana, and neighboring counties.

At this time Michiana Memory includes the following collections: St. Joseph County Maps & Atlases, Civil Rights and African American History, Arts and Architecture, and Local History. SJCPL offers free access to these collections for students and researchers, but also for the seekers and the curious.

Most of the materials in Michiana Memory come from the SJCPL collections. Many of the originals are available for check out or for viewing in the Local & Family History Department at the Main library. Others are fragile, stored safely in our archives to preserve them for future generations. With these digital surrogates, they are accessible for all.

Unless otherwise noted, the materials in Michiana Memory are in the public domain. The images are posted publicly for nonprofit uses, excluding printed publication. To purchase copies of the images and/or for copyright information contact us at local.history@sjcpl.org.
