About the collections

Welcome to Michiana Memory, SJCPL's Local and Family History Department digital collections. The purpose of these collections is to provide online access to the community's shared history and culture. These books, photographs, pamphlets, and documents tell the story of the Michiana area, including St. Joseph County, Indiana, and neighboring counties.

Many of the works in Michiana Memory are available for viewing in the Local & Family History Department at the Main Library. Due to their fragile condition, works are stored safely in our archives to preserve them for future generations. Thanks to the generosity of private individuals, the collection includes numerous items from private collections as well. A grant has made possible the inclusion of archival material from Indiana University South Bend.

Unless otherwise noted, the materials in Michiana Memory are in the public domain. The images are posted publicly for nonprofit uses, excluding printed publication. To purchase copies of images and/or for copyright information, contact us at local.history@sjcpl.org.
